Fond Memories

by Tanja Sieking
(Lexington Ne)

Traveling by train in Germany used to be a lot of fun to me.

I am originally from Wiesbaden Germany and I still remember taking the S-Bahn with my mom and sister to travel from Wiesbaden to Mainz or Frankfurt to go Shopping on the first Saturday of the Month when all the Stores stayed open until 7pm. It was so much fun. Just being at the Train-station (Bahnhof) waiting for the S-Bahn was exiting. Inside the train-station there are lots of different types of stores and restaurants especially in the bigger cities like Frankfurt.

The longest trip by train I took was when I was 12 years old. My grandparents took me along on a trip from Wiesbaden to Duesseldorf, which is approximately 215 km away. Even though it took three hours, back then that was a long ride.

I had the chance to see a lot of different Landscapes and towns. The best part of all was eating at the on- board restaurant. Grandpa even let me order whatever I wanted. That was an awesome trip.
