Linderhof Palace - Wonder, Beauty, and Curiosity!

About six miles west of Ettal, In Bavaria Germany you will find the pristine Linderhof Palace, or Schloss Linderhof.

Built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, Linderhof is the smallest of King Ludwigs castles

You will feel as if you are in a fairy tale world when you explore this castle.

The castle was built between 1870 and 1879 and was possibly King Ludwig’s favorite residence.

Originally the castle was going to be a copy of Versailles in France; it ended up, however, having more of a resemblance to Petit Trianon, the castle King Louis built for Marie Antoinette.

Ludwig's Rococo and Baroque in appearance, the castle’s fountains and English gardens delight the senses and do not under-deliver.

Evidence of King Ludwig’s reclusiveness can be found throughout the castle and the grounds.

There is actually a dining room table in Schloss Linderhof that can be moved to the floor below and back up.

Why?

So that Kind Ludwig’s servants could completely set the table and present the spread of food, then bring it back up to the king without him ever having to set eyes on them. castles of germany The king’s bedroom is the biggest room of the castle and contains an enormous blue velvet bed.

Wood carvings, paintings and other ornate decorations can also be found in this room.

It is very evident throughout all of King Ludwigs castleKing Ludwig’s castles that he loved ornately, to some gaudy, decorations and embellishments.

The castle itself is situated between a pool of water and a gently sloping mountain. English gardens, fountains and other exotic curiosities can be found sprinkled outside Linderhof Palace.

A gilded Neptune in the front yard of the castle erupts hourly during the day. The fountain roars up to 100 feet.

The Venus Grotto on Schloss Linderhof's grounds is a cave with a small pool of water with fake stalagmites and stalactites.

There are even lights under the water to help reflect the different colors. On the grounds you will also find the Moorish Kiosk, Moroccan House and Hunding’s Hut.
