Munich Events
There are so many Munich events and festivals that it seems like every day is a celebration in the Bavarian capital.Officially over 100 days of the year are given over to festivals and events of one sort or another so there is always something going on.The carnival season (Fasching) can vary but usually runs from January 7th to Shrove Tuesday and in 2011 over 700 balls and dances, some attracting thousands of guests, were held in the city. As well as balls, Fasching also features street parades, banquets and street parties. Of course Oktoberfest in Munich is the biggest event of all with huge amounts of beer drunk and food consumed during the 16 days of celebration.

Since 1810 the festival on the Theresienwiese, initially arranged to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresa, has proved to be the biggest party on the Munich calendar. But it should be said that events in the city aren't just about beer and parties and the Tollwood Festival is a magnet for international bands and artists. The festival is held throughout June and July in the Olympic Park. There are many music events held in the city with a season lasting from December to February featuring Mozart and in the summer opera is staged in the open air in the Brunnenhof courtyard during the Munich Opera Festival. There are lots of jazz and opera events held in the city throughout the year along with fun fairs, concerts and the famous Munich Film Festival.
