Quench your thirst for medieval sights and sounds along the tranquil Romantic Road.
The Romantic Road in Bavaria is one of the most traveled and promoted tourist areas in Germany. A bit over-rated in my humble opinion, but definitely worthwhile to explore. The road, called the Romantische Straße is a picturesque tour from Northern Bavaria to southern. Winding through quaint towns and villages, there are many nuggets of valuable sights to see. The tour starts in Wurzberg and ends in Fussen, near Neuschwanstein Castle. As you can see by the map below, the journey is more than doable in a day, although to have to time to stop when you would like you may want to plan for two days if you have the time. All of the following towns/villages are included on the route:

The Romantic "highway" road map
To find your way along the road, one needs only to follow the well marked route. Signs along the route are marked with “Strasse Der Romanik”.
What is on this road, anyway?
Good Question! Castles, monasteries, shoppes, parks, churches, Romanesque style buildings and cathedrals. Pretty much any building you have had in your mind that you have pictured when thinking of Bavaria, you can find it along this route.
Some of the highlights include the Hersleben church, Memleben Abbey, Falkenstein Castle, and of course Neuschwanstein Castle.
I will be adding more info soon, so check back soon for more information on the Romantic Road.
