Wear Something Comfortable

by Rachel
(Tennessee)

I think traveling by train in Germany was one of the best options that I took on my last vacation. I was in Europe for 23 days, traveling all over with some other friends. We are all from the United States.

Personally, it is not the best form of travel for me because I tend to get motion-sick while riding. It also didn't help that I was pregnant at the time and was already ill from that.

Even though I don't do well on the trains, it is still my preferred method of travel. It is hassle free and so fast and cost-effective. Airports are just a mess with all of the security. Road vehicles are so restricting.

We were on the train over night. We had a bit of time to sit in our car and talk and have some snacks that we brought along. When the beds were pulled down, we still chatted for a while before going to sleep.

I honestly never knew I was on a train while sleeping. It took a while to get to sleep, but once I did, I never felt the movement or woke up. It does get a little hot and stuffy in the cars when you have the doors closed at night though.

The following morning we went to the dining car to have breakfast. Everything was great but it was a bit rushed since there were many more passengers than the dining car could hold and everyone was waiting to be seated.

The only thing I really recommend is wearing clothes that you are comfortable sleeping in (if you are going to be on the train overnight). The rest rooms are too small to change clothes in. We had to take turns changing in our "room" and then again in the morning.
