Wurzburg Germany
The town of Wurzburg Germany is the traditional starting point of the Romantic Road. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany the Romantic Road stretches for well over 2000 miles winding its way through beautiful villages, past magnificent castles and along picturesque countryside. And it all begins in Wurzburg. Highlights In The Town Wurzburg really is a beautiful town. If you have the chance I really recommend a visit; around every corner there is a hidden gem as well as the more popular tourist spots.

Of course the first place on most peoples 'must see' list is the magnificent Wurzburg Residenz. Home to the biggest fresco in the world the Residenz (below)is a marvellous place to wander around and marvel at the paintings and furniture.

Another place to visit, especially for lovers of fine sculpture, is the Dom, a 12th century church that like much of the town was destroyed in Second World war before being rebuilt. As fine as the baroque buildings are in the town, and also don't forget to visit the Lusam Garden which is lovely in the summer, Wurzburg proudly upholds the traditional Bavarian culture of holding lots of festivals.
Festivals And Wine The main festivals in the town celebrate music and wine. This region of Bavaria is famous for its wine and no visit to Wurzburg would be complete without a trip to one of the famous vineyards that produce some of the best Riesling you can find. This love of wine is reflected in two annual festivals the biggest of which is held every September when all the local producers get together to showcased their wines. A smaller affair is the Burgerspital Wine Festival which takes place every June. The other main festivals in the town is the world famous Mozart commemoration held very June in the magnificent surroundings of the Residenz with an open air lamplight concert on the first and last Saturdays of the month.

Another musical highlight is the Bach festival which takes place in November but another popular occasion is the two weeks of parades, parties and general merriment that happens in July to celebrate St Killian's Day.There are also many festivals held in the villages around the town and you are pretty much guaranteed to find a celebration of one kind or another no matter which time of year you decide to visit Wurzburg Germany.
